Mr. Baumgartner served a 25-year career in international business before joining MBS. During his business career Steve served as Executive Vice President or President in four multi-national corporations ranging in size from 500 million to 6 billion in sales volume. Two of these corporations (Baxter and Rhone Poulenc-Rorer), were in the health care/pharmaceutical field and two (R.R. Donnelly and Telegoup) were in the printing/publishing and telecommunications fields. Steve worked in more than 35 countries and in both developing and developed economies. He directed existing businesses and was especially interested in new businesses in developing environments.

Following his retirement Steve was Executive Director of a small international school (Pendle Hill) in Pennsylvania and continued a consulting practice focused on troubled non-profit organizations and for-profit-start ups. It was during consulting work with a larger, financially troubled primary care practice that Steve began to conceive of the innovative approach to health management embodied in the MBS concept.
